Tali'Zorah ME2 Concept Helmet by anarchysquared Tali'Zorah ME2 Concept Helmet by anarchysquared
I'm preparing some Mass Effect 2 armor for my girlfriend ~aelice and I for a video game con (DEVASTATION in October - who's hitting it?). I'm working on Shepard out of sintra and foam, and at the same time I'm getting her Tali'Zorah costume done.

I added my own variations to the helmet design aesthetically. I've watched other artists struggle with it (I did too!). If you have any questions on how I did mine, let me know. I'll post a video showing the voice light shortly. (I wired it so it blinks when she speaks!)

Edit: Thanks for the feedback. A video will be coming soon! We got the kit from thatscoolwire.com. Very cool guys. I'll post pics of my Shepard build soon too.

I'd very much like to see how you got the plastic to shape that way~.

Working on a ME3 Tali'zorah cosplay.

The visor was outsourced from a gentleman on the RPF that made daft punk helmets. It had the correct curves to it, so with a little heat and cutting it was perfect. The top dome was a hard hat cut to shape and the rest was part Pepakura (File done by Dungbeetle) that I used as a pattern for the plastic I used for the sides and front.

I had contacted a gentleman by the name of Mr.Pinsky (not sure if he's selling them anymore though) on the RPF.com who was making a Daft Punk helmet and I bought three from him. Destroyed two in the process and that was the final one.

Sorry I hadn't replied. PCC 2012 prep is kicking my but. I got the visor from Mr Pinksi off of the Replica Prop Forum. It was from his Daft Punk Helmet visor that I did a little cutting and shaping to and used VHT purple anodizing paint to tint the visor. You can also use purple RIT dye with several dips to get that purple tint. Hope that helps. :)

We got some clear Daft Punk visors from a guy on the RPF, took a bit of time with a heat gun to get it the right shape. Lost 2 in the process, but the third was a success!

visors are the hardest part of armor building for me :) I would like to see the video on how you made this. It's the best Tali helmet I've seen.

Unfortunately, didn't take video. Attached a WIP pic - [link] which kinda shows how I clipped it in with the helmet shape. You gotta start with the outside helmet part, trace out how much of the visor you need to use, caaaarefully cut it out (hard), and shape it bit by bit. I know it's not the best way to explain it. It's really trial and error. Some other creators do a vacuum-form mold, which is what I might do next time. I didn't want to do that yet, because I wasn't sure how this helmet would work out yet. Now that I'm ready for a 2.0 version, I am going to prep a better visor method next time.

Really glad you like the helmet! The visor was a struggle for sure. I understand why there aren't many Tali cosplayers now. But thankfully, the community has been great in sharing what they can. I will definitely take WIP shots when I start the 2.0 version.

oh, your link says it's broken. Thank you for sharing, I've really been wanting to make Tali armor or N7 armor for myself :) I've made halo armor with the pepakura method, but I've been really interested in finding new ways to make armor. I've been looking into making some foam armor, I read you are making some, how is that going for you?

Thanks, I had a gun-metal spray paint that worked out really great with a little bit of weathering. It's hard to find that balance of what looks good in the game, to what looks good in reality. ~aelice is wrestling with 2 different edging colors on Tali's costume right now. You found a great balance with your wife's costume.

Happy to help! Might even ask you some advice in turn about how awesome your legs turned out. I want to steal a few pointers for sure.

Studied the helmet, and realized that some Daft Punk helmets had a similar visor curve. It was very hard to find people who will pull clear visors anymore, but I was able to track a guy down who would do it for me. I'll look through my RPF messages and try to get his info.

Basically, heat gun + trimming + patience + tint on the visor. :)

Definitely ^^ Anything to help a fellow Quarian lol. It's actually a really simple illusion and if measured correctly, will require only a little bit of foam. You mostly have to measure the leg, take into account the larger calves they have, and cut a piece of foam that will follow your own leg's curve, topping off the calve. If you want, I'll upload a pic of just that.

Lol It seems I wasnt being really patient then ^^; I melted more than a few visors... so if you could give me the info, it'd be really helpful xD

That would be awesome, or you can email it to amisanarchy.com :) Really want to see how you did your legs before I attempt it!

MrPinkski on RPF [link] was the contact of the clear Daft Punk visors.

What kind of virus did you use for your current helmet?

Sorry, college has started and it's a rough going to get on here ^^ But, the construction of the legs is based on illusion. At the ankle, it actually meets the ankle but, as it proceeds upward, I bowed out the foam and inserted an all black cut-out that simple continued along my own leg, giving the illusion my actual leg meets the over-sized upper part. As for the knee-caps, they were secured by elastic on the lower part of my knee, naturally jutting forward and remaining secure by the lower piece.

And I actually used plastic I found in the candle-making aisle of hobby lobby xD I lightly bent it, and it installed perfectly to the helmet I made with application of foam reinforcement and super glue :3

After a bit of research (was afraid of investing in building a vacuum-form machine and doing a crappy job), I found a guy on the RPF who did clear Daft Punk visors. We got 3 of them (2 solid pulls, 1 bad pull he threw in). There was a bit of bubbling on the second pull, so I did a lot of experiments on that and the bad pull. Basically, lots of careful cutting, and slow fitting to the helmet shape. It was a lot of work, and one visor cracked completely during forming. If you want to try that route, I recommend getting a few extra visor pulls to experiment on and get a feel of it. ~aelice bought anodized purple engine tint by accident instead of window tint, but doing a few thin coats of that got us a brilliant purple. That takes a bit of care as well- without shaking the can well, the tint clouds the visor. One of the visor pulls didn't take the tint at all. The final does have a minor bit of clouding, but ~aelice says the visibility is still better than her Mandalorian helmet.

Question for you: Did you make your asari tendrils? We have a local who would LOVE to do an asari cosplay!

Hi, thanks for that..i'll take a gander over to the rpf. Whats the rpf name of the guy who did the visors?

I didnt make my asari headpiece. It was made by a lovely lady in New Zealand who is on here and has done many headpieces for asari!
(she did Samara herself)

Either way, I was really impressed at how seamless the transition between your make-up and the head sculpt. ~aelice and I looked at many Asari cosplays, and yours was one of our favorites. Thanks so much for the link to Glittersweet.
